Intelligent UI in ChatGPT lets a conversation include layouts, graphics, controls, and interactive elements when they help answer a question. OpenAI’s official help article describes the feature and its limits. For a small business, an interactive comparison can help staff explore options, but it does not verify the facts behind the options or replace a production website. The October 2026 rollout should be checked against the current account and plan.
What changes in the response?
Instead of always returning a block of text, ChatGPT can present a side-by-side comparison, chart, form, diagram, or another interactive structure. The format depends on the request and the model’s judgment. A simple question may still receive plain text. The interface helps organize information; it is not an independent source of evidence.
For a business decision, ask the assistant to show assumptions and cite the documents used. Check the original quote, contract, or data table yourself. An attractive card can make an unsupported estimate look more convincing, so review facts before acting on the layout.
Which plans and modes support it?
OpenAI’s help page says GPT-6 in ChatGPT supports Intelligent UI on Free and Go through Luna and on Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise through Sol. It also notes that the Pro reasoning option using Astra does not support the feature. The page describes support from Instant through Extra High reasoning levels. These are product-specific rules; verify the live account because rollout and plan details may change.
The feature is available in Chat, not the Work tab or Voice, according to the help article. A team should not promise an interactive voice response or an interactive Work agent based on this Chat feature. Connected plugins may continue working, but each integration still has its own permissions.
| Question | Current documented answer |
|---|---|
| Where? | ChatGPT Chat conversations |
| Voice? | Not supported in Voice |
| Work tab? | Not supported in Work |
| Can the layout vary? | Yes, depending on task and settings |
Example: compare two service proposals
A business owner receives two website proposals with different prices, page counts, maintenance terms, and delivery dates. They can paste an authorized, non-sensitive summary into ChatGPT and request an interactive comparison. The useful output separates upfront cost, recurring cost, scope, exclusions, and open questions. It should not declare one proposal “best” without the owner’s priorities.
Open both original proposals and check each displayed term. If a price excludes hosting or support, the comparison must show that exclusion. Add the date of each proposal; an old quote may no longer be valid. The interface should help expose missing information, not hide it behind a colored score.

Talk about AIExample: explore a customer support process
A small team might ask for a diagram showing how an inquiry moves from a website form to a CRM and then to a person. A clear interactive layout can reveal where a request has no owner or where a failed API call needs an alert. The diagram remains a planning artifact. Test the actual form, webhook, CRM, and notification separately before claiming the process works.
Keep process assumptions visible: who receives an urgent message, what happens outside office hours, and how duplicate requests are detected. If the layout suggests an action button, verify whether it merely changes the conversation or calls a connected service. A visual affordance does not imply permission to write to production data.
Example: prepare an interface brief
A designer can explore navigation or a form flow in ChatGPT before building it. Use the interactive output to discuss order, labels, and edge cases with stakeholders. Then create the real implementation in the site’s design system and test it on desktop and mobile, with keyboard and assistive technology where relevant. The Chat response is not a deployed page and does not provide analytics, accessibility testing, or production maintenance.
Can the user control the layout?
The help page says custom instructions can express preferences, such as concise answers or tables for comparisons. ChatGPT settings also offer a simpler response style under Personalization, Layout and Visuals. Preferences guide the presentation but do not guarantee a specific widget on every request. A workflow that requires a fixed, testable interface should be built as an application, not rely on a conversational layout choice.
What about saved state and accuracy?
Reopen any shared conversation before relying on a saved checklist, because the state can vary by component.
OpenAI says some interactive components may keep state when a chat thread is refreshed, but that state is not retained across threads. Do not use an interactive checklist as the sole record of a client approval or a business process. Save the decision in the appropriate project system. Check every factual assertion against the underlying source before quoting it to a customer.
Who should try it?
Consider a second example: a manager asks ChatGPT to compare three ways to handle incoming leads. An interactive chart could show staffing effort, software cost, and the number of handoffs. The manager should supply verified inputs and inspect the chart’s labels and scale. If one option has a low monthly price but a high setup cost, a visual that shows only monthly cost would mislead. Ask to see the underlying table and assumptions, then save the approved decision in the CRM or project documentation rather than relying on the chat interface as the system of record.
Review accessibility as well. An interactive graphic may be harder for someone using a keyboard or screen reader than a plain table. OpenAI’s simpler layout setting can reduce visual complexity; the user can also request a text explanation. If a business shares the answer with a colleague, include a short textual summary of the conclusion and the source facts. The goal is comprehension for the person making the decision, not maximum interactivity on every response.
People who compare options, explain a process, or explore a design can benefit from a clearer presentation. Start with internal, low-stakes material and evaluate whether the format actually helps someone understand or decide. The feature changes how an answer can appear; it does not turn an unsourced answer into a reliable one.
